Mexico GP gets three-year extension from 2026
30th April 2025Formula 1 has announced that the Mexico City Grand Prix will enjoy a three-year extension on its current contract, which will keep it on the calendar until 2028.

On Wednesday, it was announced that F1 has extended its current contract with the Mexico City GP for another three years, which will start from the 2026 season until 2028.
The circuit offers unique challenges to the teams and drivers as they sit 2km above sea level, as they battle it out against not only their competitors but also the altitude.
Since the nation returned to the calendar in 2015, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has enjoyed sold-out attendances as 405,000 spectators enjoyed the event last season – a record for the Mexico City GP.
“We are very excited to announce that the Mexico City Grand Prix will continue to be part of our calendar through the 2028 season,” commented Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali.
“Formula 1 is energy, passion and emotion, and every year the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship.”
Three drivers of the current grid have enjoyed the top-spot spoils as the Mexico City GP victors, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton.
The Mexico race enjoyed some triumphant moments, such as Max Verstappen’s record-breaking 14th win in a season, in 2022, pipping Michael Schumacher’s record of 13.
He went on to win 15 races that season, followed by another record-breaking 19 wins in a season in 2023.
The Mexico City GP also provided the backdrop for Lewis Hamilton’s fourth and fifth World Drivers’ titles, when the Ferrari driver raced for the dominant Mercedes team.
“We are very excited to announce that the Mexico GP will be held for three more years,” said President and CEO of CIE, Alejandro Soberón Kuri.
“We are deeply grateful for the invaluable support of the Government of Mexico City, from the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, to our President, Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as Stefano Domenicali from Formula 1, who have made it possible to continue bringing Formula 1 to our country.”
