FIA hold second meeting with F1 Commission in 2025

The FIA confirmed they had their second meeting with the Formula 1 Commission at their offices in Geneva, discussing the 2025 and 2026 regulations.

On Thursday, the FIA had talks with the F1 Commission for the second time in 2025 at their Geneva offices, and online. It was reportedly chaired by the FIA’s Single-Seater Director, Nikolas Tombazis and F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali. 

It follows their first of the year back in February, ahead of the inaugural F1 live car launch and their recent meeting with the World Motor Sport Council, which approved a two-stop race for Monaco shortly after. 

In the meeting, the FIA and F1 Commission confirmed updates to the 2025 and 2026 Sporting Regulations.

For this season, there were ‘minor refinements’ to the 2025 regulations that discussed the final amendments required to mandate a two-stop race in Monaco, and updates to parc ferme for drivers to opt not to wear the cooling vest. 

A talking point was also around a ‘regulatory mechanism’ which will manage freight delays on fly-away events, which teams experienced recently at the Chinese Grand Prix. 

There was also an amendment made to the Financial Regulations which was agreed in respect of the ‘capital expenditure allowance’ for new teams. The meeting deemed this necessary due to Cadillac’s arrival in 2026. 

The final point for the current regulations surrounded the recent issues of grass fires which were previously experienced in China last season, and Japan more recently. It had been agreed that they would look into alternative skid material and treatment on some circuits. 

FIA confirm GM as F1 power unit supplier from 2029

In 2026, the meeting confirmed that the FIA had updated the progress with regards to the 2026 regulations. 

The Commission also discussed, in principle, refinements to ‘the energy management strategy’ for the upcoming year, which measures financial issues by the Power Unit Manufacturers facing low performance or reliability issues. It was confirmed that those topics would be discussed further in advisory committees. 

The FIA also updated the Commission about the recent ‘constructive meeting’ which was recently held in Bahrain between them, Formula One Management and the power unit manufacturers.
