Hamilton avoids punishment with Albon in Saudi Arabian GP practice
19th April 2025Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton has avoided punishment with the FIA stewards after he allegedly impeded Williams’ Alexander Albon during FP2 of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is the second-fastest on the 2025 calendar, behind Monza, and thanks to its street circuit nature, many blind corners as the drivers tackle the 27-corner circuit.
During Free Practice 2, under the floodlights, Albon was on a fast lap and quickly approached the rear of Hamilton at turn 17. The Williams driver managed to take evasive action to avoid a collision, but called the incident dangerous.
However, following the meeting with the stewards, the officials had deemed that no further action would be the result. The steward reported that it was agreed with the teams that impeding would not receive a penalty unless ‘it could be regarded as dangerous.’
It was reported that Albon claimed he had the car under control at all times as he avoided the slow-moving Ferrari. Although he initially claimed the incident to be dangerous, in his immediate reaction, upon reflection, the Williams driver agreed it was not.

In the report, the stewards said:
“During the hearing, the driver of Car 23 [Albon] felt that he had the car under control at all times and while he was impeded, he did not consider the situation to be dangerous. He had seen Car 44 [Hamilton] in front of him during the corner before.
“However, he did not expect Car 44 to be in the position on track that he was in and that shocked the driver of Car 23 as he approached Turn 17 and had to take evasive action. While his immediate reaction when the incident occurred was to say that it was dangerous, having looked at it subsequently, he agreed that it was not.
“We accordingly took no further action”
