Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc topped the opening hour of the Singapore GP, around the Marina Bay Street Circuit in a steady, business-as-usual session. For the majority of the hour, this was similar to the second free practice session to round out Friday’s action.
However, the sun had fallen ahead of the second hour and the conditions were more representative to that of Saturday’s Qualifying and Sunday’s race.
George Russell brought the biggest moment of the session, in the dying minutes, as he nose-dived into the barrier. The Briton turned right at Turn 5 but the car refused to turn, catching the front-right before coming to a sudden stop in the Barrier.
The Mercedes driver was able to reverse out of the wall and continue back to the pits at the end of the session.
How FP2 ended…
Norris rounded out Friday’s action with the fastest lap on the board with a 1m 30.727s as Leclerc finished just behind in second – 0.058s behind – as Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completed the top three, sixth-tenths off.
RB’s Yuki Tsunoda occupied fourth place ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri to round out the top five drivers.
Tsunoda’s teammate, Daniel Ricciardo – rumoured to be participating in his final F1 weekend of the season, at least – finished sixth. Mercedes’ George Russell, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, William’s Alexander Albon and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top 10 in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was the leading driver in the bottom 10, down in 11th, and was the last driver to stay within one second of Norris’ best time on the board, 0.940s behind. Hamilton was closely followed by his former teammate, and Aston Martin driver, Fernando Alonso who was 12th, 1.023s off the pace.
Haas’ Kevin Magnussen completed the session down in 13th ahead of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, in 14th and 15th respectively.
Franco Colapinto, Williams, was the fifth-slowest driver of the order, in 16th, ahead of the Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in 17th and 18th. The Kick Sauber pairing of Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas completed the 20-car field in 19th and 20th respectively, with the latter 2.059s off the pace.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
