Colapinto, at the second time of asking, has bagged his first set of championship points which is something his predecessor failed to do all season. As such Colapinto becomes the 353rd driver to take their maiden set of points.

The Argentine completed the race down in eighth, the same place he started after he benefitted from Lewis Hamilton’s pit lane start when the Mercedes team changed his power unit.

This is combined with Colapinto’s teammate, Alexander Albon taking home a points finish in seventh, it gives the Williams team their first double-points finish since the 2023 United States Grand Prix.

On the achievement, Colapinto said:

“To score my first points in Formula 1 is a fantastic feeling. I’m so proud of this team for what we’ve already been able to achieve together. I’m delighted to have points on the board to show for all the hard work and effort we’ve been putting in with it only being my second race.

“We had good pace today being very close to the Aston. To finish seventh and eighth alongside Alex means we’re now P8 in the Constructors’ Championship which is a good step forward and a motivator for the team.”

With 10 points in the bag for Williams, it means that the team will climb a place in the championship overtaking Alpine for eighth in the constructors table.

Respectively, it means Alpine dropped to ninth three points behind Williams whilst Haas F1 remain 13 points ahead in seventh.

However, the team are looking forward to a potential upgrade to hopefully build upon their two-race momentum, having taken points in both Monza and now Baku. The team have reported this new upgrade will being set to be introduced on the car in Singapore this weekend.
