On Tuesday, during a press conference at their Silverstone base, Aston Martin confirmed Newey will join the team in 2025, ultimately ending speculation on where he will go.
The 65-year-old was confirmed to leave Red Bull Racing in May, earlier this year, having worked an early exit out of his contract as the team’s chief technical officer.
With the agreement confirmed between Aston Martin and Newey, the British designer is still undergoing his gardening leave with Red Bull and will not be able to work with his new team until the first quarter of 2025.
He will join the team as their Managing Technical Partner, on March 1, 2025.
However, when Newey joins the team he will be able to get to work to try and get the team up the field following a turbulent season which has seen them fighting amongst the midfield runners.
He will be designing the cars which will be driven by two-time F1 world champion, Fernando Alonso who remains in contract until at least 2026, and Lance Stroll.
Newey will be an addition to Aston Martin’s recruitment of top talent as Lawrence Stroll looks to get the team into world championship contention, including the likes of Dan Fallows, Andy Cowell and Enrico Cardile.
The Canadian team owner has also funded a state-of-the-art facility to help build this vision of making Aston Martin a championship-fighting team.
The legendary F1 designer, and the team, will also be able to get to work designing their 2026 contenders when the new regulations come in. As per the F1 rules, all 10 teams will not be able to start designing their 2026 cars until next January.
