During the Italian GP, the Dane was been banned from the next race after hitting the maximum threshold for penalty points after he caused a collision at turn four, when he attempted to overtake Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.

It was deemed that the Haas driver did not overtake in a ‘safe and controlled manner throughout the manoeuvre’ and the stewards placed the blame on Magnussen, issuing a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points.

As a result of the two points, Magnussen has now hit the limit set on the FIA’s super licence which gives drivers a maximum of 12 penalty points.

This will put a damper on the Dane’s Italian race as he secured a points finish at Monza, beating Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso by a tenth of a second.

It is expected that if a driver hits the threshold, it will punish the driver by obtaining a race ban.

It has now been confirmed that Magnussen will miss the next race which is set to be held at Azerbaijan.

It’s unclear who will replace the Dane, he could be replaced by the team’s incoming driver, Oliver Bearman who has already participated in an F1 race season when he replaced the ill Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, in Saudi Arabia.

Since the rule came into force, back in 2014, no one has been banned from racing yet as no driver has hit the threshold, although drivers have come close to the threshold.

As a result, it makes Magnussen as the first driver to be banned from this ruleset.
