There has been much speculation on where the British designer will call his next home with Scuderia Ferrari and Aston Martin reported to be the lead contenders for his skills.
However, in recent months, it is believed that Aston Martin has overtaken the Italian F1 team as the leading bidder to land Newey’s signature. This comes as team owner, Lawrence Stroll continues to renovate the team’s headquarters into a state-of-the-art facility.
According to Motorsport.com, the announcement is expected to come in the build-up to next week’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Despite claims from Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft who said an announcement could be made this week during the Italian Grand Prix.
It was announced in May that Newey was set to leave the Red Bull team since he joined the Milton Keynes outfit back in 2006.
During his tenure at the team, Newey helped drive the team to seven Drivers championships – with the most recent being Max Verstappen – and six constructors championships.

However, more recently, following the news of Newey’s departure, the team have fallen off somewhat and is enduring a winless drought of six races after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the Italian GP.
This comes as Verstappen and Sergio Perez are struggling to extract the maximum performance from their once-dominant car.
As such, they are significantly under threat of losing their constructors title to McLaren. The Woking-based team find themselves eight points behind the reigning world champions and they could take the championship lead next time out.
Alternatively, Verstappen has failed to stand on the top step since the Spanish Grand Prix and, as a result, McLaren’s Lando Norris has slowly shaved off the deficit. As it stands, Verstappen remains as the leading driver but he only has 62 points separating him from Norris.
