Despite opening the road on Friday, dropping back as low as sixth on the opening stage, Neuville was able to stay out of trouble and took the lead of the rally on Saturday when others faltered.

Although the Belgian did not put in the faster stage times on the final day – as part of the WRC’s Super Sunday standings – the Hyundai driver still stood as the overall winner.

With the fastest time on the board on Saturday, a third-place finish on Sunday plus two points in the power stage, it means Neuville extends his lead in the championship standings to 192 points.

At the end of the rally, Hyundai’s Daniel Sordo and Ott Tanak completed the top three to give Hyundai a 1-2-3 finish with Neuville on the top step.

Although Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier was in podium contention going into the Wolf Power Stage, the Frenchman rolled his Toyota. However, he was able to continue on after Neuville took victory.

As such, Tanak moves up to second in the drivers championship, 34 points behind Neuville and four points ahead of – now third-placed – Ogier.

With three rounds to go, it means both Hyundai and Neuville inch closer to championship glory with Chile, Central Europe and Japan rallies left to go.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
