Lando Norris renews contract with McLaren F1 on ‘multi-year’ contract
26th January 2024Mclaren’s Lando Norris has reiterated his intentions to stay with the team ‘beyond the 2025 season’ as it was announced he signed another multi-year contract.
Norris, who had previously signed a multi-year contract with the team in February 2022, will now remain with the team ‘beyond the 2025 season,’ the team have confirmed.
McLaren have backed their British driver after an impressive campaign last season despite problems at the start.
The #4 McLaren secured six second-place finishes, a third-place finish at the Qatar Grand Prix and two sprint race podiums.
Norris also made an impressive drive at the 2023 British Grand Prix where he narrowly missed out on pole position but snatched the lead at the race start. He later became the first McLaren to stand on the podium, at Silverstone, since 2010.
On the announcement, Norris said:
“It’s a great feeling to be staying in papaya. I’ve grown up with McLaren and feel at home here, the team are like family to me. The journey so far has been exciting, we’ve had ups and downs, but last season showed our desire to get back to competing at the front of the grid.
“The work Zak, Andrea and the whole team have put in over the last year has been incredible and I’m confident in challenging for wins with McLaren.
“I’m excited to create more amazing memories and continue working hard with everyone at MTC for the next few years.”
2024 will mark the 24-year-old’s sixth season in the sport since he joined in 2019 with the Woking outfit, paired alongside Carlos Sainz.
Following his maiden podium in Austria, 2020, Norris enjoyed his best season to date securing 205 points across the season to finish sixth in the Drivers Championship.
Combined with Oscar Piastri’s performance, Norris played his part in helping his team secure fourth in the constructors championship with 302 points.
Commenting on Norris renewed contract, McLaren Racing CEO, Zak Brown said:
“I’m delighted that we’re continuing our relationship with Lando for multiple years to come.
“It’s been a fantastic journey over the last six years, and he has shown fantastic commitment and desire to push the team forward and get McLaren back to the front of the grid.
“Last season we saw the fundamental role Lando played with the impressive turnaround in results and I’m looking forward to continuing this push forward together with lots more podiums.”
