Verstappen wins 24H Daytona ahead of F1 title defence
21st January 2024Outside of the Formula One season, Max Verstappen is still winning as the three-time world champion secured the virtual 24-hours of Daytona.
As the Dutch world champion entered 2024, the Red Bull Racing F1 driver has remained active in his racing.
It has been well reported that the Dutchman is an avid sim racer and has competed in various events whilst defending his F1 world title. 2024 has been no different as Verstappen participated in the demanding iRacing Daytona 24.
Despite being in the slowest class, the team had to endure gruelling conditions as they raced their way around the virtual Daytona circuit whilst being lapped continuously throughout the 24-hour period.
Paired alongside GIanni Vecchio and Ole Steinbraten, Verstappen secured victory with the Team Redline outfit. The trio competed in the sim race, on iRacing, in the GTD class.
The #4 Team Redline car, qualified ninth in its 12-car class and Vecchio and Steinbraten took control in the early stages of the race. The two drivers were able to reel in the front-runners with help from the sister car, driven by Gustavo Ariel, Alexey Nesov, Josh Thompson and Florian Lebigre.
The two cars worked together, providing slipstreams to each other to increase their pace whilst saving fuel.
The race was not without problems. Verstappen took over, on the Saturday evening, and the two Team Redline cars worked their way to become the front two of the class.
Verstapen and Thompson later made contact and this caused Verstappen to spin and lose time.
However, the sister car (Ariel, Nesov, Thopson and Lebrigre) suffered a game crash and dropped to third, a lap behind.
Verstappen took over the final shift to take the car to the flag and, in true fashion, he and his team cruised victory for the class ahead of #199 Stormforce ART car which came in second.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
