Red Bull’s Christian Horner given CBE as Ron Dennis knighted in Honours List
30th December 2023Both Red Bull Racing Team Principal, Christian Horner, and former McLaren team boss, Ron Dennis have been named on the New Year’s honours list.
On Friday night, the New Year’s Honours list was revealed, detailing a great number of individuals to be given titles and/or knighthoods. Of such names, both Horner and Dennis were listed.
This will mark the second New Year’s Honours list under the reign of King Charles III.
The Red Bull team principal and CEO was previously given an OBE in 2013 when the team enjoyed a successful run of double championship glory, from 2010 to 2013.
10 years later, Horner will be upgraded to CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) after the team secured an almighty 21 of 22 wins under his leadership.
According to Red Bull Racing’s press release, the new title is a recognition of ‘his achievements in F1 and the wider motorsport industry.’
Commenting on the news, Horner said:
“It was an unexpected distinction a decade ago to be presented with an OBE and to receive this second award, a CBE, is one for which I am hugely grateful and deeply honoured.
“It is a great privilege to lead and work alongside such a phenomenal Team as Oracle Red Bull Racing and also to work in an industry that contributes so much to the United Kingdom’s economy.
“I am enormously proud of what we have achieved with Red Bull in Formu and in the wider high technology arena and I am hugely honoured to be recognised for that effort.”
Whilst Horner is elevated to CBE, former McLaren boss, Dennis will be given a knighthood for services to the industry and charity.
Dennis is the former Chairman and CEO of the McLaren Technology Group and under his leadership, McLaren’s Formula One team achieved 158 Grand Prix wins and 17 world championships.
Besides his F1 successes, the 76-year-old also founded and donated millions of pounds to the Podium Analytics Institute for Youth Sports Medicine and Technology, engaging with over 1,000 community sports clubs and sports organisations.
Over 25 years, Dennis supported Tommy’s which is the leading UK charity in researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births. His family foundation, Dreamchasing, has also helped disadvantaged families and young people across the world pursue their dreams.
