Mattia Binotto resigns as Ferrari Team Principle

Mattia Binotto resigns as Ferrari Team Principle

After recent speculation, Ferrari have finally announced their Team Principle, Mattia Binotto, will leave the team at the end of 2022.

Following a string of mishaps across the season, which have ultimately costed Ferrari a chance at the title, Binotto will leave Ferrari at the end of the year.

In a statement, the team stated:

“Ferrari announces that it has accepted the resignation of Mattia Binotto who will leave his role as Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal on December 31.”

This comes after the team, who saw a return in competitive form in 2022, finished second in the championship 205 points adrift of this year’s Constructors Champions, Red Bull Racing.

Following the announcement, Binotto said:

“With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari.

I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the convinction that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set.

“I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I’m sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future.

“I think it is right to take this step at this time as hard as this decision has been for me. I would like to thank all the people at the Gestione Sportiva who have shared this journey with me, made up of difficulties but also of great satisfaction.”

The team looked to be the ones to beat as the new regulations began to bed in. However, they were quickly out-paced by Red Bull in the development race as the Milton Keynes outfit, and their driver: Max Verstappen, charged towards both titles.

Despite the lack of development, other gremlins started to rear their ugly heads which hindered their 2022 campaign, such as driver errors, reliability, questionable strategy calls and pit-stop drama’s.

As it stands, the famous Italian team haven’t tasted glory with a driver since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007 and they haven’t secured a constructor’s title since 2008.

Ferrari are currently underway identifying a viable replacement for Binotto which is expected to be finalised by the new year.

Rumours speculate that Alfa Romeo’s Team Principle, Frederic Vasseur, is in the prime seat to replace the outgoing team principle.

That’s it for the article; Mattia Binotto resigns as Ferrari Team Principle!
