ABT Sportsline reveal Gen3 car as they return to Formula E
9th December 2022ABT Sportsline have revealed their Gen3 contender for season nine as they return to Formula E, alongside new title sponsor; CUPRA.
ABT Sportsline is set to return to the Formula E grid this season, joined by Spanish carmaker: CUPRA. The two partners are set to make their first public debut at the Sports’ official pre-season test in Valencia.
The two brands have had a good history together, in recent years, as they work together in another all-electric racing medium: Extreme E. In the all-electric, off-road racing series, they managed to pull off a victory at the season finale in Uruguay.
The design of their Gen3 car is based off the all-electric CUPRA UrbanRebel concept car, of which there will be a road version in 2025. The design looks to hold a Navy Blue primary colour, outlined by lime green – in a dotted appearance to give the car a dynamic look.
CEO of ABT SE, Hans-Jürgen Abt said:
“We are happy and also proud to have CUPRA at our side for our Formula E comeback.
“Our two brands have enjoyed a close and successful partnership for years on the racetrack and on the road, which is now reaching a new level.
“We are looking forward to the new adventure and I am sure we will attract a lot of attention on and off the racetrack.”
Formula E stands to be CUPRA’s third entry into an all-electric championship, following their previous endevours in Extreme E and the FIA ETCR (eTouring Car World Cup). This comes as the brand is focusing on its EV drive.
ABT plays a part in Formula E’s heritage took part of the inaugural season, becoming an inaugural member of the Formula E grid. In the all-electric, single-seater series, ABT will start the season as a customer team with vehicles from Mahindra Racing.
Formula E CEO, Jamie Reigle said:
“We are excited to welcome CUPRA to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
“CUPRA has gained rich experience in electric motorsport in recent years. Now in partnership with ABT Sportsline they are set to dial up what is an incredibly competitive Formula E grid in Season 9 and the new Gen3 era.
“We can’t wait to see them in action in Mexico City in January.”
