Maserati MSG Racing unveil Gen3 Tipo Folgore

Maserati MSG Racing have unveiled their Formula E Gen 3 car, the Maserati Tipo Folgore, as the Italian luxury car brand embarks on its newest adventure.

Following Nissan, Jaguar, DS and McLaren last week, Maserati are the latest team to showcase its Gen3 challenger ahead of pre-season testing in Valencia in over a weeks’ time.

The car was revealed on home soil, in Modena, Italy, outfitted with the company’s iconic blue colours.

As such, the Gen3 Maserati stands primarily blue with a white outline around its borders, branded by its name along said lines. The Front wing remains a relatively dark colour with the pride colours brightening up the endplates.

In the teams reveal, Maserati’s team principle, James Rossiter said:

“After months of anticipation, it’s a great feeling to lift the covers off the Maserati Tipo Folgore. With the prestige of Maserati and the experience, success and diligence of MSG [Monaco Sports Group], we believe we have a winning combination.

“Now our focus returns to pre-season preparations and after a promising private testing phase, we need to maximise every minute of track time in Valencia.

“At this stage, it’s very difficult to make any predictions, but with a competitive package and Edo [Mortara] and Max [Günther] behind the wheel, we’re confident that we can have a successful season.”

The Maserati Tip Folgore plays into the company’s history as it plays homage to the brands first racing car, the Tipo 26. However, the Formula E car represents the brand’s commitment for its all-electric, high-performance Folgore range.

Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Guenther complete the driver line-up for Maserati, ahead of season nine.

Mortara is returning to the all-electric series after a good season, in 2022, after the Switzerland-born driver secured third in the drivers standings – behind both Stoffel Vandoorne (Season Eight champion) and Mitch Evans respectively.

Whereas Guenther will be hoping the new beginning provides the German with better fortunes after he finished P19 in the 2022 driver standings – between Oliver Turvey (P18) and Sergio Sette Camara (P20).

Both drivers believe the car looks promising as the sport heads to the pre-seasons tests in Valencia. However, Mortara believes pre-season testing will provide the team the opportunity to ‘validate’ their work, he said:

“Looking at our car, it’s very different compared to the other liveries on the grid for 2023 so we’ll definitely stand out on track in Mexico.

“Over the past few months, we’ve been going through our development cycle and so far, things look good but it’s too early to really tell.

“Pre-season testing will be a key opportunity for us to validate our work as we continue to refine and optimise our performance ahead of the start of the season.”
