Portland completes Formula E Season 9 Calendar
8th December 2022The Oregon city of Portland, in the United States, will host the 12th round of the ninth season of Formula E after approval from the World Motor Sport Council.
Formula E is set to race in Portland for the first time, on June 24, 2023, after the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved the decision.
The Oregon city will host the 12th round of Formula E’s ninth season, amongst 16 different other venues.
Portland will join the list of new cities to host an race for the all-electric series, joining the likes of Hyderabad (India), Cape Town (South Africa) and Sao Paulo (Brazil).
Formula E’s Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Alberto Longo said:
“We are excited to bring the premier electric motorsport world championship to Portland for the first time in June next year.
“There is a big, passionate fanbase for professional sports in the city, together with strong ecological credentials which makes Portland a perfect host for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
“The USA remains an important market for Formula E. We are delighted to maintain that critical presence and engage a new audience in the Pacific Northwest region in all-electric motorsport.”
The all-electric series has raced in the United States ever since its inception, back in 2015 – only 2020 was the exemption, during the COVID outbreak.
Portland, this season, will join fellow US cities who have all hosted an E-Prix, such as; Long Beach, Miami and New York City.
Portland’s announcement means the Season Nine calendar has been updated – and completed, removing the TBD slot that was previously held for May 2023.
However, the calendar remains subject to homologation of the season’s new venues.
