Formula E: Nissan, McLaren and Jaguar reveal 2023 liveries
1st December 2022Three Formula E teams; Nissan, McLaren and Jaguar, have finally unveiled their liveries ahead of the ninth season of the all-electric series.
Jaguar
Jaguar TCS Racing revealed a dynamic livery with their 2023 design, at their launch event in East London. The team opted to go for a striking asymmetric livery mixed with a Black and White colour scheme.
The design itself is bold, pleasing on the eye and the first of its kind in the sport.
The car’s right-hand side (to the driver) is primarily white before it crosses over to black on its left-side, in its asymmetric design. Only a slim line, of a light-gold colour, lines up between the two contrasting colours.
The British team also re-confirmed their 2023 driver line-up in Mitch Evans and Sam Bird, the only team to remain unchanged going into the season.
Evans will return after great season where the British driver finished runner-up to, season eight World Champion, Stoffell Vandoorne. Despite finishing runner-up, the Briton still took the fight to the bitter end.
However, the same cannot be said for Sam Bird who finished P13 on 51 points, 162 points adrift of Vandoorne (213pts).
Jaguar will look to continue their impressive form into the ninth season of Formula E after their highest-ever haul of points in the sport, and the team will hope their Gen3 car, the I-Type 6, can help drive the team forwards.
Nissan
Nissan’s 2023 Gen3 contender was inspired by a cherry blossom theme. The theme represents the teams’ heritage and a new beginning in the fresh upcoming season, with the newest generation of cars.
In addition, the team will be competing under their own name this season after the Nissan acquired the e.dams operation, earlier this year.
The livery consists of a red and white design, in a dynamic pattern, while incorporating the Sakura Flower into their livery. The nose of the Nissan’s e-4ORCE 04 Gen3 car runs red nose before white surrounds the cock pit – separating the red roll hoop.
Despite the new; car, look, team name and generation of car, the team will also run with a new driver line-up; Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz. The new partnership combines Formula E experience with a young, aspiring talent.
Nato has previous experience of securing a win in Formula E while Fenestraz is an aspiring talent who secured the runner-up spot in the 2022 Super Formula series.
McLaren
McLaren will start their Formula E campaign this year, adding another motorsport to its expanding portfolio as McLaren Racing. As such, the team have opted to run a uniformed livery to their other categories (Formula 1, Extreme E and IndyCar).
The team have ran with their usual Papaya coloured livery with a healthy mix of blue and black – in a similar design to their F1 counterpart.
Ahead of McLaren’s inaugural season in the all-electric sport, seasoned driver Jake Hughes will line up alongside former Formula E driver and triple DTM champion (2017, 2019 and 2020) Rene Rast.
Hughes comes into the Woking-based outfit with a wealth of experience in single seater categories after racing in BRDC Formula 4, Formula Renault and Formula 3 before he progressed into Formula 2. The Briton also joined Mercedes-EQ as a reserve and development driver – which aided their championship glory.
On the other hand, Rast will return to Formula E this season. The German driver joined the series in the 2015/16 season before he raced with Audi in the sixth season’s six-race and nine-day finale, in Berlin, during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Minden-born’s performance in the delayed finale earned Rast with a regular seat a season later.
