Lewis Hamilton emotional after Arsenal Premier League victory
21st May 2026Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton has confirmed he ‘shed a tear’ after his boyhood football club, Arsenal, won the Premier League title this week.

Ahead of the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, Arsenal were crowned champions of the top tier of English football, the prestigious Premier League, after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Tuesday, May 19.
It was the first time the London-based team had secured the league title of England’s top league in 22 years, since Arsene Wenger’s invincibles season back in their 2003/04 campaign.
Among many fans, Ferrari’s seven-time world champion, Hamilton, has been widely known to be a long-time supporter of the team and confirmed he was emotional by the Gunners’ title victory.
When asked about Arsenal’s title victory by Sky Sports, Hamilton said:
“Like, I think for everyone, very emotional – I shed a tear to be honest, because I remember I was five years old and I used to play around the corner football with friends.
“You know, I was the only black kid in the area out of the people I was playing with. And I remember trying to fit in, and all of them supported different [teams]; West Ham, Tottenham, Manchester.
“So I was bouncing between all of these when I was like four or five years old, depending on who I was with.”
The seven-time world champion confirmed it was an emotional moment for him, witnessing his beloved team secure one of the most important titles in English football.
The London-based squad had many close calls to secure the league win, but suffered three high-profile collapses across the last three seasons, where they finished runner-up each time.
Hamilton reminisced on Arsenal’s close calls before declaring his pride for his boyhood club.
“To finally get it, you know, it was wow,” he continued. “Like, a lot of emotion came up from me, as I’m sure for so many people.
“I’m just so happy and proud of the team, and obviously Arsenal was great. I think the direction they’ve gone in the past couple of years has just been fantastic.
“Very inspired by what they’ve done. Really, really proud of the team, and I think they can go from strength to strength from here.”
The Seven-time world champion is back in action this weekend, with the Canadian GP, where he will be looking to improve on his Miami misfortunes, last time out.
Hamilton had been involved in an opening-lap collision with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto during the main Miami GP, which had hindered the Ferrari driver’s performance in the race.
He heads to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where he ties the record (7) for the most race wins by a driver with Michael Schumacher
Free practice 1 will get underway at 12:30pm local time on Friday, before the teams and drivers dive straight into Parc Ferme with Sprint Qualifying later on.
