Evans joined Formula E in 2016 alongside the Jaguar team, as the British marquee made its return to single-seater motorsports since its disappointing F1 run in the early 2000s.
Since then, he has racked up 16 wins, the most in Formula E history, all with the Jaguar programme, and has been a consistent title threat in that time.
Evans’ first Formula E victory came at the 2019 Rome ePrix, where he took the lead following a daring move past the Techeetah of André Lotterer. It wasn’t until season Seven he became a true title protagonist.
On the news, Evans stated:
“I am grateful to Jaguar for the opportunity to race for such an iconic brand and will be giving my all to win the Drivers’ World Championship this season.”
Despite not taking a victory all season, Evans came into the finale in Berlin just five points off the back of championship leader Nyck de Vries, and with a third-place start it looked promising for the Kiwi.
However, his car hardly got off the line, and he was collected by fellow title rival, Edoardo Mortara, with them both losing the title to de Vries.
Season Eight saw Evans in the title fight again, this time against the other Mercedes of Stoffel Vandoorne.
Evans won the first race in Seoul, to keep himself in the title fight, just 21 points behind Vandoorne going into the second race; however, Vandoorne would finish second, as Evans crawled to seventh, handing the title to the Belgian.
Season Nine saw the Gen 3 cars debut, and with just four races left in the season, Evans was 32 points adrift following Portland.
Evans won the first Rome ePrix, before having an airborne crash with title rival, Nick Cassidy in the second race in Rome. Despite a win and second in London, the crash in Rome potentially cost Evans the title to Dennis, as the New Zealander finished 32 points behind Dennis.
Season Ten saw Evans once again in a title battle, this time falling short by just eight points to Pascal Wehrlein, a title he would have won had he not been given a five-second time penalty in Portland for causing a collision with Jean-Éric Vergne, after winning the race on the road.
Seasons Eleven and Twelve have been up and down for Evans. Currently, he sits third in the standings after five races, despite already being 18 points off Wehrlein at the top. It is a marked improvement over last year, however, with two wins in Sao Paulo and Berlin being sandwiched between an 11-race scoreless streak, the longest of his entire career.
As the team principal of Jaguar TCS Racing, Ian James, said:
“Both Mitch and the team have reached this decision together and, with 11 races still remaining in our partnership, we will be doing everything we can at Jaguar TCS Racing to ensure we continue to support Mitch’s efforts in the Drivers’ World Championship, as well as our fight for the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships.”
