The Miami ePrix, Formula E’s most temperamental event, having two different locations across its two previous runnings, will soon have a third as the Formula E circus descends on the Hard Rock Stadium. The series previously raced on the Biscayne Bay Street Circuit in 2015, with the circuit wrapping around the arena for the Miami Heat NBA team.
The Miami ePrix disappeared off the calendar until last year, when a new venue was found, the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The NASCAR season closer had a slightly altered road course for the electric series, but ultimately was dropped from the calendar after just one year.
Formula E comes into the Miami ePrix weekend with two races complete. Nick Cassidy won last time out in Mexico City, with the Citroën driver taking the marque’s first victory in only their second Formula E race.
Cassidy executed a stunning drive from 14th on the grid to cross the line just under a second ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Jake Dennis, who round out the podium. The Kiwi has been on the podium for every race since Berlin 2025, with four wins in the past five races.
The Miami ePrix at Biscayne Bay was one of the first races in Formula E, with Nico Prost taking the victory for the e.dams team, now competing as Nissan.
Nissan won the second Miami ePrix on track last year, with Norman Nato winning from pole, after Nato’s ten-second time penalty for not using all of his attack mode during the race, Pascal Wehrlein took the 25 points home instead.
The controversial ending of the 2025 Miami ePrix allowed Lucas di Grassi to take Lola’s first podium in motorsports since the 2013 Petit Le Mans, where Rebellion and Dyson entered Lola’s finished first and second in the P1 class.
The race will run on the Miami International Autodrome, a modified variation of the Formula One circuit will be the third different venue to host the Miami ePrix. The track hosted the Formula E EVO sessions during the mid-season break last year, where celebrities, including Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, Sergio Agüero, and Mr. Beast drove Formula E cars.
The track will be a slightly different configuration to the EVO Sessions layout, with the ePrix using the ‘MIA Loop’ variation compared to the ‘Extended MIA Loop’ that was used in the EVO sessions.
The track will cut off at turn three on the F1 circuit, and rejoin through turn ten on the F1 layout, before cutting back up and emerging on the other side of the track on the back straight. It then cuts off before the hairpin and rejoins through the final corner.
Lap times are expected to be under a minute, a feat that Antonio Felix da Costa has mentioned he has not done since karting.
The Miami ePrix takes place on the 31st of January at 19:00 GMT.
