Following the events of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, F1 remains in Asia for the Singapore GP, after Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured back-to-back victories in both Italy and Azerbaijan. In turn, the four-time world champion has reignited hope that he can defend his driver’s title against the McLaren behemoths.
As it currently stands, the Dutchman is fourth in the overall drivers’ standings, and still has a big task ahead of him with 69 points separating him from McLaren’s drivers’ championship leader, Oscar Piastri.
After McLaren failed to seal the title last time out in Azerbaijan, following Lando Norris’ seventh-place finish and Piastri’s DNF, the title race rolls onto this weekend. While the driver’s title remains open, the constructors’ championship can be secured this weekend. All McLaren has to do is take 13 points on Sunday to seal the title.
But the weather is expected to play havoc in the region over the next week. According to the meteorologists at BBC Weather, the region will expect a series of thundery showers spanning from at least Tuesday, September 30, up until Saturday, October 11.
So, what is the expected weather forecast for the Singapore Grand Prix?
Friday
Sunny intervals will be expected for the opening hour of practice in Singapore. However, this weather is expected to turn for the worse as night falls, as thundery showers are expected between Free Practice 1 and FP2, before it turns to light rain for the second hour of practice.
There stands a low chance of rain, standing at 21% for FP1 before increasing up to 40% for FP2. Temperatures will be as high as 31° by midday before falling to 29° and 27° for both practice sessions, respectively.
Saturday
Unlike Friday, there is a risk of thundery showers all day, spanning as early as 6am until 7pm local time. It means the likelihood predicts that the final practice session ahead of qualifying will be wet and thundery, whilst the rain is not expected to be present for qualifying.
As it currently stands, the chance of rain for FP3 stands at 31% before it reduces to zero for qualifying. Temperatures will continue to be as high as 31° by 1pm local time, before dropping to 29° for the final hour of practice, and 27° for qualifying.
Sunday
For the three hours at midday, between 12pm and 2pm local time, the weather is forecast to be at its worst with thundery showers expected during these times. However, the conditions are expected to improve with clear skies forecast for the start of the race.
There is a low chance of rain during the race with BBC weather expecting a 4% chance of precipitation during the grand prix, with temperatures holding around 28° to 27°.
