Hours before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to get underway, the FIA Race Director has made a fourth adjustment to the event notes which they made on the grounds of ‘safety and orderly conduct.’
Ahead of the Formula 1 event, the pit exit road has been modified with a black line separating the edge of the white block and the kerb at the exit of Turn 1.
The update, point 15.4 of the Race Directors Event Notes, confirms that no part of a tyre, when exiting the pit lane, may cross the black line with respect to the pit exit road.
The updated Race Director’s notes now state:
“For the safety and orderly conduct of the event, no part of a tyre of a car exiting the pit lane may cross the black line painted in the pit exit road for the purpose of separating cars leaving the pit lane from those on the track.
“For the avoidance of doubt, crossing means that the outside of any tyre should not go beyond the outside, with respect to the pit exit road, of this line.”
It follows an incident that occurred in qualifying on Saturday, where Mercedes’ George Russell overtook Williams’ Carlos Sainz on the pit exit. The Spaniard complained on the team radio, unsure if it was worthy of a penalty.
There was no action taken by the stewards after the incident.
This marks the second update regarding the pit exit, on version two, with the first update being about practice starts and allowing cars to pass.
