The Formula 1 pack headed out onto the seaside Zandvoort Circuit in a busy session as rain, which had narrowly missed the circuit initially, was threatening as it proceeded. And it wasn’t long before complaints started flowing. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso complained that ‘Antonelli is blind’ as the Spaniard encountered Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli at turn seven.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc had his own encounter on the track as the Monegasque encountered the rear of Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, who blocked him from overtaking into the penultimate corner.

However, it wasn’t long before the session was red-flagged as Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll crashed at turn three. The Canadian blasted into the corner, locked up and understeered into the barrier. Stroll reported that he was fine but the car had suffered significant damage.

Stroll was not the only interruption as the Virtual Safety Car was brought out thanks to Racing Bull’s Isack Hadjar, who lost power out on track. The VSC was brought out to allow the marshals to extract the car whilst not impeding on track running.

Williams’ Alexander Albon brought out the second and final red flag of the session, with 21 minutes left on the clock, as the London-born driver damaged his front wing at turn one and beached his car in the gravel. The session shortly after, with over 12 minutes remaining.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
