The World Rally Championship headed to Estonia for the eighth round of the 2025 championship, and it was home hero Tanak and Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera who were the initial favourites for the event.

However, Toyota’s Oliver Solberg stole the show as the 23-year-old went on to secure victory at the event, having snatched the rally lead on Friday, after taking home his first-ever stage win. Estonia was a one-off appearance for the Swede, who currently leads the WRC2 championship, where he has usually competes in 2025.

At the end of the rally, it was confirmed that there was a change in the championship standings.

Having scored 13 more points than Toyota’s championship leader, Elfyn Evans, it means Tanak goes to the top of the standings with one point more than the Welshman. It means when the sport heads to Finland at the end of the month, Tanak will be the first car out on the stages, sweeping the way for those behind.

This change is the first since Sweden, in February, after Evans took over the championship lead from teammate Sebastien Ogier. The eight-time world champion missed out on the Estonian rally and dropped to third in the standings. But, Ogier will return to the sport in Finland next time out.
