For the seventh rally on the bounce, and fourth consecutive gravel rally, Evans is set to lead the field when the Rally gets underway on Friday, as per his championship position and under the sporting regulations.

Despite not winning the Monte-Carlo opener, Evans opened the road in Sweden due to Sebastien Ogier’s absence, and he has opened the road ever since, putting him at a disadvantage on the gravel events as he sweeps the road of loose gravel for those behind.

As such, the Welshman is hoping for some rain to help level out the playing field, although it is forecast to be a dry and sunny event. He said:

“It’s important to have a good feeling in the car and our test last week was good for working through some ideas, but we also know the conditions we’ll face on the rally can depend a lot on the weather; hopefully there can be a chance of some rain to help us out opening the road on Friday.”

As it currently stands, based on forecasts from the Met Office, the opening day is going to be warm with highs of 24° and a 10% chance of rain from 9am until 5pm.

Despite this, Evans is looking forward to a return to Estonia for the upcoming rally, deeming it ‘a very different character of rally’ with its wide, flowing roads and high speeds, averaging over 120kph.

It is one of two fast gravel rallies coming up, in July, with Estonia preceding the iconic Rally Finland at the end of the month.

Estonia joined the calendar in 2020, as a COVID addition, and remained on the calendar until 2023, when it took a year off in 2024 and was replaced by its neighbouring country, Latvia.

“We’re looking forward to a very different character of rally for the next two events, with some very fast roads,” commented Evans. “Although Estonia wasn’t on the calendar last year, it’s an event we have pretty good knowledge of and a nice one to be going back to with the high-speed nature of the stages.”
