Russell has taken his fourth career victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, as the British driver got off the line well to defend his lead into the opening corner.
From there, the Mercedes driver was able to control his way to victory ahead of his fierce competitor, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who could only manage second place.
The Dutchman had to keep his weekend clean as the Dutchman has a one-race ban hanging over his head due to being on 11 of 12 penalty points.
It was a double podium for the Silver Arrows as Kimi Antonelli took his maiden podium in third place, ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
However, the race was completed under safety car conditions as the two McLarens of Piastri and Lando Norris collided on the pit straight. The two were fighting over fourth place in the dying stages of the race.
Norris, who was wheel-to-wheel with his teammate on the back straight, tried to sniff a move on the outside of Piastri down the pit lane. The former misjudged his gap and tapped the front wing with Piastri’s rear left tyre.
The #4 McLaren hit the barrier, damaging its suspension and retiring quickly after contact, which prompted the safety car. Norris quickly took full responsibility for the incident.
