Ferrari had a mixed weekend in motorsports, as the manufacturer won its third consecutive victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the Formula 1 team reportedly had many mistakes and issues in Canada.
Vasseur has claimed that the team had too many issues and too many mistakes, which spiralled from Free Practice 1, resulting in the team’s finishing positions of P5 and P6 with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, respectively.
Leclerc crashed in FP1 and was forced to miss out FP2, following the crash. Whereas Hamilton suffered damage to his car as he hit an animal on the track during the race.
Reflecting on the weekend, Vasseur said:
“I believe the main issue this weekend is that we made too many mistakes and had too many issues right from FP1, when we lost one car, then came a mistake in qualifying and in the race Lewis lost a good amount of points of downforce early on after unfortunately hitting a small animal that ran onto the track which damaged the front part of the floor.”
If he could redo the weekend, the team boss said that he wouldn’t choose to go through FP2 with a single car as it hindered the team’s ability to put long stints on the tyres.
Despite the mistakes, Vasseur has taken some positives from the event, in a weekend where he was one of the hot topics following a report that he could be removed from his position if results don’t improve.
During the Canadian GP, Vasseur slammed the ‘disrespectful’ news and claimed it is ‘hurting the team.’ He said:
“I don’t know the target. I don’t understand the target. Perhaps it’s to give s**t to the team, but in this case, I don’t see the point. Perhaps it’s for them the only way to exist.
“This is probably more the reason. But it’s really hurting the team. It’s, at one stage, a lack of focus. And when you are fighting for the championship, every single detail makes the difference.
“And from the beginning of the weekend, we are just speaking about this. And if it’s their target to put the team in this situation, they reached their goal.”
