Lance Stroll return confirmed ahead of F1 Canadian GP

Aston Martin confirm Lance Stroll will return for the Canadian Grand Prix after a successful medical procedure, having missed out the Spanish Grand Prix due to his hand injury.

In Spain, last time out, Stroll qualified for the Spanish Grand Prix but did not compete in the event as the team announced he would miss the event to undergo a medical procedure to rectify issue in his wrist and hand.

The team had withdrew Stroll from the Spanish race as he went to resolve his medical problem but this left the team without a second car, leaving Aston Martin to compete with a single car, driven by Fernando Alonso.

It was believed that the symptoms, which had spanned over the last six weeks, prior to the Spanish GP, were in relation to an injury he suffered in 2023.

That season, Stroll had been involved in a cycling accident as part of his pre-season training and he quickly underwent medical surgery to get him ready for the first race in Bahrain.

On Wednesday, ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, it has been announced that Stroll will be in attendance and will compete at his home race. The team said:

“Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team is pleased to confirm that Lance Stroll will be back with the team competing in Montréal this weekend.

“Lance had a successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms he has been experiencing and completed some laps in an old F1 car at Paul Ricard earlier this week. Lance is feeling fit and healthy, and is excited to compete in front of his home crowd.”

The announcement removes any potential headache his absence would have endured as both their reserve drivers, Stoffel Vandoorne and Felipe Drugovich are away for the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, this weekend.

Ahead of the event, Stroll confirmed he was going ‘to fight hard’ to be ready to participate in his home race. He said:

“I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend. I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montréal crowd.

“I’m feeling good after my procedure and put some laps in at Paul Ricard this week to prepare. Thanks for all the support, see you guys this weekend!”
