How the grid shapes up for F1 2025 Spanish Grand Prix

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri will line up on pole position for the upcoming Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, but how does the rest of the grid shape up for the race?

McLaren have locked out the front row for the Spanish GP with Piastri pipping his teammate, Lando Norris, by two-tenths of a second to claim his fourth career pole position. 

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton temporarily lined up behind but was quickly demoted by both Red Bull’s defending world champion Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ George Russell. 

However, only 19 drivers will compete in the event on Sunday. This comes after Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was withdrawn from the event due to pain in his wrist and hand, suspected to be related to his cycling accident in 2023. 

According to the sporting regulations, it means Fernando Alonso will be the only Aston on the grid in his home race.
