Winners and Losers of F1 Bahrain GP

The Bahrain Grand Prix was a more entertaining race compared to its predecessor, so who are our winners and losers?

Winner – Oscar Piastri

Piastri was undoubtedly the ultimate winner of the Bahrain GP as the Australian looked to be in a class of his own. He was the fastest in Free Practice 2 and 3, and in qualifying.

Once the race got underway, he wasn’t under any pressure as he controlled his way to a fourth career victory and his second in 2025 – the first repeat victor of the season.

Loser – Max Verstappen

The reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, had a problematic weekend, qualifying seventh for the race. He was also hindered by problems in the pit lane, resulting in slow stops.

He never really looked to be in a position to threaten victory or even the podium. A result which has seen him leapfrogged by Piastri in the drivers’ standings, dropping to third, eight points behind Lando Norris.

Winner – George Russell

Russell was Piastri’s closest contender in the race and, at times, looked to threaten Piastri’s victory. Although he was punished by a one-place grid penalty, for his team’s error, he quickly corrected that wrong into the first corner.

Nursing problems with his machinery, the Briton pulled off a good drive to secure second place, in between the two McLarens.

Loser – Liam Lawson

His return to Racing Bulls hasn’t been as smooth sailing as the New Zealand driver would’ve hoped. In his second outing with the team, following his Red Bull demotion, Lawson had a poor weekend.

He collected a total of 15 second penalties in the race after contact with both Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, which ultimately ruined any chance of a good result.

He won’t want many days like that unless he hopes to follow a similar fate to the man he replaced last year, Daniel Ricciardo.

Team Winner – Ferrari

Whilst McLaren walked away with a double podium, Ferrari put together a strong strategy which looked like it could give one or both of the Ferraris a chance of a podium. A chance which never came.

However, it seemed to be a stronger performance from the Scuderia last weekend. It will raise the question of whether they can continue or improve in Saudi Arabia this weekend.

Team Loser – Red Bull

It seemed to be a weekend of damage limitation for the Red Bull team. Whilst both Red Bulls made it to Q3 on Saturday, none really could move up the order with Verstappen finishing sixth (from seventh) and Tsunoda ninth (from 10th).

Hindered by slow stops, thanks to a technical issue with the pit gantry, the only silver lining in their troubled weekend is their first double points finish of the season.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
