Piastri has become the first driver to secure repeat victories in 2025, the most of any driver so far after four races completed, as the Australian completed a controlled drive to victory.
The polesitter dealt with Mercedes’ George Russell with ease on the race start as the Briton looked to snatch the lead at the opening corner. But Piastri emerged out on top and didn’t look to be under pressure throughout the race.
However, the same could not be said for his fellow podium finishers, Russell and Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris.
Russell had technical problems. The team gave the Briton an override to use DRS when he was instructed to, and a possibility that he may lose the dash on his steering wheel.
It was reported that Russell has used the DRS when he was not supposed to, resulting in a post-race investigation, which may result in a post-race penalty.
He reported, in the post-race interviews, that he was meant to hit the radio button but the DRS flap opened, for a split second. He closed it and backed off, claiming no sporting advantage.
Norris also had his share of problems as he was given a time penalty for a false start. It was revealed that he was ahead of his grid box at the race start, which resulted in a five-second time penalty.
This penalty was served at his first pit stop where he remained stationary for over seven seconds.
It now means Piastri jumps to second place in the driver’s standings, overtaking Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, and sits on 74 points, three behind Norris (77pts).
