McLaren has been in form all weekend as they have topped every single practice session of the weekend with Lando Norris in Free Practice 1 and Piastri in FP2 and FP3.
Piastri’s form bled over into qualifying as he went on to top the timing boards and seal pole position for the Bahrain GP, pipping Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
However, both Russell’s and Kimi Antonelli’s positions are threatened as Mercedes let the duo out into the pit lane before a confirmation time was given, after Haas’ Esteban Ocon crashed early on in Q2. It is unclear is this will result in a fine and slap on the wrist for the Mercedes team or sporting penalties for their two drivers.
So who qualified where?
- Oscar Piastri, McLaren
- George Russell, Mercedes
- Charles Leclerc, Ferrari
- Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes
- Pierre Gasly, Alpine
- Lando Norris, McLaren
- Max Verstappen, Red Bull
- Carlos Sainz, Williams
- Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari
- Yuki Tsunoda, Red Bull
- Jack Doohan, Alpine
- Isack Hadjar, Racing Bulls
- Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin
- Esteban Ocon, Alpine
- Alexander Albon, Williams
- Nico Hulkenberg, Kick Sauber
- Liam Lawson, Racing Bulls
