McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri topped the timing boards, first and second, respectively. The latter held onto provisional status in the second run of Q3, but – after a deleted first run – Norris snatched the top spot to seal his 10th career pole position.

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen found pace on Saturday after a troubled opening day to the season. He lay down the marker as he set the pace in the first run of Q3. His second run wasn’t enough to topple either of the McLarens and will start third.

Mercedes’ George Russell and Racing Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top five drivers in fourth and fifth, respectively.

William’s Alexander Albon impressed with a sixth-place finish in qualifying ahead of the two Ferrari’s with Charles Leclerc outqualifying his teammate and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in seventh and eighth.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Williams’ Carlos Sainz completed the top 10 in ninth and 10th.

Tsunoda’s trailing teammate, Isack Hadjar was the fastest driver of the bottom 10, in 11th, ahead of the two Aston Martin drivers of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, in 12th and 13th. Alpine’s Jack Doohan (14th) and Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto (15th) rounded out the top 15 drivers.

Promising Mercedes driver, Kimi Antoneli, finished his first qualifying session in F1 with a Q1 elimination. It was deemed the young Italian had suffered floor damage on his late Q1 run which hindered performance. He finished 16th.

Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, Red Bull’s Liam Lawson, and the Haas duo of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman completed the 20-car field in 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

However, Bearman was not classified in qualifying as the Briton suffered gearbox problems and failed to set a lap time on the board.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
