After securing pole position and the sprint race win on Saturday, Marquez completed a clean sweep of wins as he finished ahead of younger brother, Gresini rider, Alex at the Chang International Circuit.
When the lights went out, Marquez led the opening corners with no problem, whereas his brother, Alex, who started second, was forced wide at turn one by Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia. The younger brother returned to the track in fourth.
However, the Gresini rider worked his way back up to second after half a lap.
Alex Marquez took the race lead on lap seven after Marc backed off with an apparent issue, which was revealed to be a tyre pressure issue on his bike. The problem was quickly rectified, and he returned to speed after Alex took the lead.
For the majority of the race, Alex Marquez led his older brother ahead of Bagnaia. But three laps before the end of the race, Marc Marquez completed his race-winning overtake into the final corner to snatch the lead from Alex.
The two Marquez brothers completed the podium 1-2, with Marc pipping Alex, ahead of Bagnaia to produce an all-Ducati podium in the season opener.
It also marked the first season-opening win for the six-time world champion since 2014, at the Qatar Grand Prix, in a season he took his second world championship.
Next up, in the 22-round championship, is the Argentina Grand Prix which will get underway on March 14 – 16, 2025.
