That’s it. Practice is now officially over for 2024 with the final Free Practice 3 being completed at the Yas Marina Circuit and the two McLarens head the final hour of practice with Piastri out in front ahead of Norris.
After a lull of action, with a couple of cars heading out on track initially, the session quickly got busy as we approached the first 10 minutes.
By the chequered flag, no one was beat Piastri’s time with McLaren in good form to fight for pole position in qualifying – next – and maintaining the advantage over Ferrari in their fight for the constructors title.
As we stated, Piastri set the fastest time on the board for the final practice session of the season with a 1 minute and 23.433 seconds, one-tenth quicker than Norris. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completed the top three, in third, three-tenths off the leading duo.
Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completed the top five, in fourth and fifth, just under half a second off the pace.

This left Mercedes’ George Russell to lead the remainder of the top 10 in sixth, ahead of both Haas drivers: Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, respectively.
Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda was the fastest driver in the bottom 10, seven-tenths off Piastri’s time ahead of Williams’ Alexander Albon and Alpine’ Pierre Gasly, in 12th and 13th.
Gasly’s newest teammate, replacing Esteban Ocon for the season finale, Jack Doohan finished his first Saturday practice session in 14th ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu occupied 16th and 19th after the final hour, as they endured their final practice session as F1 drivers (for the foreseeable future…).
VCARB’s Liam Lawson and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll filled in the gap, respectively, in 17th and 18th, whilst Williams’ Franco Colapinto completed the session in 20th.
