The Formula 1 season is nearly all set and done. The Drivers championship is sealed to Max Verstappen, concluded in Las Vegas. Only one more championship to conclude: the constructors championship, the result of which will be answered this weekend.
Whilst Drivers championship carry prestige, the constructors championship is vitally important for the teams standings for one main reason: money.
The constructors championship, which includes all 10 teams, will determine how F1’s prize fund is shared out amongst the competitors.
The Prize pot, of which all the teams scrap for every single point for, is reportedly – according to Sky Sports – 50% of the sports commercial rights revenue for every season. As such, this means the reported profit of $3.2bn (£2.3bn) of last year’s season would’ve seen a prize pot of $1.6bn (£1.2bn).

However, this is not all strictly given to the teams as bonuses are given out with the likes of Ferrari apparently getting 5% of that to recognise their contribution to F1’s global popularity – the rest is then split after this deduction.
The winning champions have been reported to get 14% of the winning cut whilst the team who comes last gets 6%.
In 2023, championship winners Red Bull Racing was expected to get a winning amount of $140m (£106m) which the remaining teams expected of getting £7m less than those in front of them.
The constructors championship allows gives clear indications of how the teams wind tunnel allocation is spread out the field for the following year.
The champions of the season will get the least amount of time in the wind tunnel whereas the team who finishes last gets the most time available in the windtunnel, aiding car development.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
