Ahead of the F1 grand prix weekend, the safety car had crashed in a bizarre incident. Bernd Marylander was out on track conducting his usual pre-event test, as per the usual procedure.
However, on a fast lap, Maylander lost control of the Aston Martin into the entry of Parabolica, Monza’s last corner.
Whilst the crash was a spectacular one – with the back end going out and sliding towards the barrier side-on – Maylander and his passenger were okay following the incident.
The two Safety Car occupants were reportedly picked up by the Medical car which was also out on track.
Following the incident, the FIA released a statement which said:
“There was an on-track incident with the FIA Safety Car today at Monza.
“Aston Martin is investigating the cause but can confirm both driver and passenger are fine. There is an additional Safety Car at the circuit and it will not impact the weekend’s event.”

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
