On Tuesday evening, Williams confirmed Franco Colapinto will replace Sargeant for the remainder of the season until Carlos Sainz joins the team from Ferrari, next season.

It has been a turbulent year for the American driver with a need to turn around his fortunes which never came to fruition. A dire weekend at Zandvoort, last week, was the final straw for Williams and the 22-year-old was dropped.

However, Albon has first-hand experience in experiencing what Sargeant is going through having been dropped from Red Bull Racing in 2020, before Williams gave the British-Thai driver a second chance in F1.

“I know firsthand how brutal this sport can be & it’s tough to see Logan leave the team mid-season,” said Albon on X. “You gave it your all brother and it’s been a pleasure being teammates with you. I know whatever you do next, you’ll be awesome.”

The American driver has seen his seat under threat for most of the season with heavy speculation around him losing his seat mid-season with the likes of Mercedes protégé Andrea Kimi Antonelli or Liam Lawson.

Despite this, the team have opted to replace the American with their first Argentinian since Carlos Reutemann who last raced for the team in 1982 – and his last season in F1.

It has been rumoured that Sargeant will depart F1 and head across the Atlantic pond to embark on a new journey in the United States IndyCar series. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
