Oscar Piastri ‘healed’ ahead of Dutch GP

McLaren race winner, Oscar Piastri claims he is healed following Formula One’s annual two-week summer break after he showed that he broke his rib mid-season.

After a good start to the year going into his sophomore F1 season, claiming four podium finishes and his maiden victory at the Hungaroring, Piastri has seemingly enjoyed his two-week break from the sport.

At the same time, the break allowed the McLaren driver to heal from his broken bone. 

It was revealed on August 11, in a social media post on X, it was revealed that the Australian race-winner had suffered his first broken bone with a fractured left 6th rib. 

Despite the broken bone, it hasn’t affected Piastri’s performance. The Australian driver has contributed to McLaren’s success in 2024 which has shown them as a true contender for the constructors championship against, reigning champions, Red Bull Racing.

However, a week later, just under a week before the first practice session commences in Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix, Piastri provided an update. 

On X, the Australian said: 

“Sunned and healed. Ready for some more race cars.”

The social media post, posted on August 11, consisted of four images which contained key moments of his 2024 campaign, including the ultra-sound image which showed the injury on display. 

The ultra-sound image was dated at 11:12am on July 8, 2024, meaning he was checked out a day after the British Grand Prix which he competed in and finished fourth. 

It was joked that he had injured himself by secretly participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games when Dutch gymnast, Frank Rijken, caught the eye of F1 fans due to their similarity.  

Piastri’s injury wasn’t the first injury for the McLaren team this season as Lando Norris suffered a facial injury whilst partying in Amsterdam, ahead of the Miami Grand Prix. Both Norris and Piastri continued to race despite the injuries.
