McLaren have ‘renewed energy’ for the second half of F1 season

McLaren claim to have ‘renewed energy’ as Formula 1 returns this weekend with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, this weekend.

With 10 races to go until the end of the F1 season, and four races to be conducted in the next five weeks, McLaren have to come out of the gates with all pistons firing. 

Following a fairly successful first half of the season, the Woking-based team have found themselves in the middle of a championship fight with the defending champions Red Bull Racing. 

Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secured their maiden victories this season, in Miami and Hungary respectively, and combined with a total of 12 podium finishes it sees McLaren just 42 points adrift of Red Bull, in the constructors championship. 

As the sport heads into Zandvoort for the next round of the championship, Team Principal, Andrea Stella states the team returns ‘with renewed energy.’

“With two weeks of shutdown over, we now return to racing with renewed energy.” Stella said. 

“The Dutch fans always create a great atmosphere, which we can’t wait to experience once again. Zandvoort is a short, technical circuit, which poses a very different challenge to Spa or Monza. 

“This weekend marks the start of a very busy period, with four races in five weeks. To ensure we maximise the opportunities ahead of us, we must be resilient, focused and work together closely as a team to extract maximum performance.”

However, it’s not just the constructors at stake for the McLaren team as Norris remains in a prime position to take the fight to the dominant Max Verstappen for the drivers title. 

With a win and eight podium finishes to name, Norris finds himself as Verstappen’s closest title challenger with 78 points separating the two drivers.

However, Norris isn’t clear in second place as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc remains close behind in third, 22 points behind. 

Speaking ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris claims he is ‘refreshed and ready’ to go. He said:

“We’re back! I had a great time over summer break. It’s always good to take some time off and focus on spending time with family and friends. I feel refreshed and ready for the final 10 races of the year.

“I’m looking forward to the Dutch Grand Prix. It’s a good race to start the second half of the season. 

“There are always a lot of fans in the crowd who bring a great atmosphere to be a part of. It’s also a fun circuit to drive. Hopefully, we can continue where we left off and continue bringing the fight for wins and podiums.”
