Jonathan Wheatley set to depart Red Bull Racing at the end of 2024
1st August 2024Red Bull Racing has announced that their Sporting Director, Jonathan Wheatley is set to depart the team to join Audi’s F1 Project.

On Thursday, the Milton Keynes team confirmed that their sporting director is set to leave the team at the end of the year with a period of gardening leave to follow in 2025.
The senior staff member of Red Bull Racing’s F1 team is set to move over to Audi, when they arrive on the grid in 2026, as their Team Principal.
On X they said:
“Today, we announce the departure of Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, as he heads to a new challenge in the role of Team Principal with the Audi F1 Project.”
Wheatley’s departure marks the second occasion where a significant staff member has left, following Adrien Newey’s departure earlier on this season.
“It has been a long and successful relationship with Jonathan, over 18 years,” commented Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal and CEO. “His contribution to six World Constructors’ Titles and seven World Drivers’ Championship, first as Team Manager and latterly Sporting Director will forever be a marker in our Team history.”
This news follows Audi’s own announcement where Audi’s F1 CEO Andreas Seidl and Audi Executive Oliver Hoffman were set to leave the Audi F1 Project, replaced by former-Ferrari Team Principal, Mattia Binotto.
As such, Wheatley will have to report to the former F1 team boss who started his new role today [August 1].
Red Bull Racing are set to announce a ‘new team structure’ in the next few weeks.
