On Tuesday, it was announced that Binotto, former Ferrari Formula 1 Team Principal, will take over as Chief Operating Officer and their Chief Technical Officer of Sauber Motorsport AG.

The Swiss-born engineer will take over the responsibility and accountability for the ‘operative management and sporting success’ of Audi F1. Binotto will report to the Board of Directors at Sauber Motorsport AG.

On the announcement, CEO of Audi AG, Gernot Döllner said:

“I am delighted that we have been able to recruit Mattia Binotto for our ambitious Formula 1 project. With his extensive experience of more than 25 years in Formula 1, he will undoubtedly be able to make a decisive contribution for Audi.”

Audi’s decision to take on Binotto is part of the ‘realignment of the control structure’ of the factory team, securing the independence of their F1 project.

As a result of the decision, Oliver Hoffman and Andreas Seidl will leave the project as part of the realignment.

“I would like to thank Oliver and Andreas for their important work in establishing our entry into Formula 1 and their commitment in preparing it,“ commented Döllner.

Binotto is set to take up his new post with Audi’s F1 project on August 1 and will take on its leadership in Hinwil.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
