Alexander Rossi provides update after broken thumb surgery
23rd July 2024McLaren’s Alexander Rossi has provided an update on his broken thumb as the American driver underwent surgery.

The American driver broke his thumb late on in the opening practice session after he hit the tyre barrier at turn eight, at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto, ruling him out of the rest of the race weekend.
As a result, McLaren were in the hunt for his replacement which came in the form of 2023 Formula 2 world champion, Theo Pourchaire who had also raced with McLaren in IndyCar this year.
Following the incident, Rossi traveled to Indianapolis for treatment and rehabilitation for the injury with surgery being done on his thumb.
On Monday, Rossi provided fans with an update on his health via social media. On X, he said:
“Yesterday morning’s surgery on my thumb was successful. I am so thankful to everyone at Indycar medical and IU Methodist for the quick timeline.
“Feeling good and will share more news when able. Also, typing with my left hand is hard.”
No timetable has been revealed by either Rossi or Arrow McLaren, nor have the team announced a potential replacement for the time being.
If Rossi is unable to compete for the next race, the team will likely announce his substitute in the near future ahead of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, at Madison’s World Wide Technology Raceway, on August 17.
