Sebastien Ogier to return in WRC Rally Latvia after accident
12th July 2024Sebastien Ogier is set to compete in the inaugural World Rally Championship’s Rally Latvia, next weekend, after he was forced to miss Rally Poland.
Toyota’s eight-time world rally champion is back in action next weekend after the team pulled him out of Rally Poland, when he was involved in a road traffic accident.
Following the incident, during the reconnaissance phase of the Polish stages, current world champion’s Kalle Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen were parachuted in to replace the injured French crew.
Ogier’s teammate and Vincent Landais were admitted to hospital, along with the other two people involved with the incident. Landais was discharged from hospital later on whilst Ogier was kept overnight for medical observations.

After a quick recovery, Ogier is set to tackle the Latvian terrain. Ogier said:
“It was quite unfortunate what happened during our preparations in Poland. Now after some rest, and some good help from my medical team, I could recover pretty quickly and I’m looking forward to being back in a rally car in Latvia.
“The challenge of a new rally is generally something I like and that’s one of the reasons we added this event to our programme.”

This will be the first time Ogier has competed in the country, which is similar for his fellow teammate, and title-challenger, Eflyn Evans.
However, both Evans’ and Ogier’s co-drivers – Scott Martin and Landais, respectively – have competed in Rally Liepaja previously.
Getting back into the action, Ogier has already got his target ahead of him.
He and Landais will be looking to ‘find the feeling’ on the events high-speed roads but the former world champion has claimed he is ‘excited for a new challenge.’
“The target for us will be to find the feeling for the very high-speed roads quickly after missing Poland,” Ogier added. “I’m always excited for a new challenge and let’s see what we can do.”
