On Tuesday, it was announced Toyota gained permission to allow Rovanpera – alongside co-driver Halttunen – to compete in Rally Poland this weekend.

This followed the announcement that Sebastien Ogier and Vincent Landais had withdrawn from the event as a result of a road traffic accident during their reconnaissance of the weekend’s stages.

In a statement on X, Toyota said:

“We are pleased to confirm that @KalleRovanpera and @JonneHalttunen will step in for their team-mates Seb and Vincent and participate in Rally Poland: rising to the challenge and showing the great spirit in our team”

Both Ogier and Landais were shown to have ‘no serious injuries,’ according to Toyota’s statement on X, after the two were sent to hospital for checks. This was the same for the other driver and passenger involved in the accident.

As a result of Ogier’s withdrawal from Rally Poland, the team quickly found their replacements – replacing one world champion for another.

According to the WRC, the stewards have allowed Rovanpera and Halttunen to recce the stages whilst providing authorisation for Toyota to change the car number from Ogier’s to Rovanpera’s.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
