Despite being subbed in for Sebastien Ogier and Vincent Landais, who were involved in a road traffic collision on Tuesday, Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen topped the timing boards to take maximum points heading into Super Sunday.

However, the day was not without issues as spectator control issues returned on Saturday with the official WRC team’s social media channels pleading for fans to respect safety in the event.

Hyundai voluntarily retired Ott Tanak from running on Saturday as he returned to the event after hitting a deer on Stage 2, the team opted to shift his focus onto the Super Sunday points.

How did day three end…

Rovanpera topped the timing boards as the overall rally leader, landing him with 18 points under his belt granted he finishes the rally on Sunday.

The reigning world champion was closely followed by Andreas Mikkelsen and Elfyn Evans, in second and third respectively with 16.1 seconds separating the top three.

Adrien Fourmaux was best of the rest in fourth place as Martin Sesks rounded out the top five. Sesks was able to withstand the charge of the championship leader, Thierry Neuville, in his hybrid-less Ford Puma Rally1 car.

This meant Neuville had to settle for sixth and two points less in his title challenge, 58.3s behind Rovanpera’s pace.

Gregoire Munster and Takamoto Katsuta completed the WRC Rally1 competitors in seventh and eighth respectively, heading into the final day of the weekend.

In turn, this left Sami Pajari and Oliver Solberg in order of ninth and 10th as the two WRC 2 competitors inside the top 10.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
