Neuville tops day 2 of Rally Croatia as the rally heats up
20th April 2024 0 By Kamron KentHyundai’s Thierry Neuville completed Saturday, at the World Rally Championship’s Rally Croatia, as the fastest driver as the remaining top three drivers remain very close.
It was another intense day of the top drivers in Croatia, as the two leapfrogged for the rally lead. This followed the opening day where Neuville and Evans finished deadlocked with the same time.
Just like the opening day of the WRC’s Rally Croatia, the second day of action also consisted of eight stages. However, four crews secured stage wins across the day but one driver dominated: Neuville.
At the end of the second day, Neuville topped the timing boards to take home the maximum amount of points available, a total of 18, as part of the new WRC format.
Across the eight stages, the all-Belgian Hyundai i20 secured five stage wins while the rest were shared with one-a-piece between M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux, and the Toyota’s of Sebastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans.
In the end, Neuville topped the timing boards ahead of Evans who finished the day 4.9 seconds adrift of the Belgian. Ogier completed the day still in third, 11.6s behind.
As for the remaining WRC driver, Tanak remained best of the rest down in fourth, followed by Fourmaux in fifth.
Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta, Hyundai’s Andreas Mikkelsen and Ford’s Gregoire Munster completed the day sixth, seventh and eighth.
The WRC2 competitors of Nikolay Gryazin and Yohan Russell remained inside the top 10, in ninth and 10th respectively, with their Citreon C3 Rally2’s.
