Esapekka Lappi secures win in Rally Sweden
18th February 2024 0 By Kamron KentHyundai’s Esapekka Lappi has secured victory at the Rally Sweden to give the team back-to-back victories in 2024.
Following Takamoto Katsuta’s misfortunes on the 10th stage of the weekend, when the Japanese driver wedged his Toyota Yaris into a snow bank, Lappi has had an easier time out in front of the rest of the field to secure his first win since 2017.
Lappi’s win in snowy Sweden has given the team their second, and back-to-back wins in 2024 after Thierry Neuville secured victory in Monte-Carlo, last month.
Due to the new points standings, and Lappi’s more cautious approach to ensure victory, it means the Finnish winner does not leave Sweden with maximum points, scoring 19 across the weekend.

As a result of the new points system, it means Lappi will only stand sixth in the drivers standings in between Hyundai’s Ott Tanak (fifth) and Katsuta (seventh).
Elfyn Evans, Toyota, secured second place overall, and a maximum of seven points on offer for Sunday’s running. M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux secured his maiden podium, in third.
Provisionally, this win ties Hyundai with Toyota in the points standings but the Japanese manufacturer remains on top of the teams table. In terms of the drivers’ standings, Neuville remains the championship leader with 48 points.
Evans’ second-place finish will keep him second in the drivers standings with 45 points but it will cut the deficit to Neuville three points.
That’s all for the article; Esapekka Lappi secures win in Rally Sweden!
