Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera dominated the rally weekend at the Safari Rally Kenya as the reigning world champion stormed out in front to secure his first win of 2024.
Rovanpera stood on top of his Rally1 Yaris, alongside his co-driver Jonne Halttunen, after the all-Finnish crew secured their first win of the year in Kenya.
Heading into the East African country, Kenya had been a good hunting ground in recent years for Toyota – and this year was no different.
Despite missing out on the rally lead during the opening Kasarani super special stage, the world champion had the rest of the rally in absolute control.

The reigning champions secured seven stage wins across the weekend, including a clean sweep of wins on Friday.
Rovanpera ended the first point-scoring phase of the weekend, on Saturday, with a two-minute and eight-second lead ahead of his Japanese teammate Takamoto Katsuta, who occupied P2.
Going into ‘Super Sunday,’ Rovanpera’s meant the all-Finnish crew could waste time completing the five stages and ease their way to the Power Stage. By the time they reached the power stage, the time deficit dropped to 1m 27s.
Whilst Rovanpera was the overall rally winner, he did not secure maximum points as he was the slowest Rally1 car out on the field on Sunday and will take home a haul of 20 points – 18 from Saturday and two obtained from the power stage.
