Neuville and Evans deadlocked after first day of Rally Croatia
19th April 2024 0 By Kamron KentHyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Toyota’s Elfyn Evans end day one deadlocked at the World Rally Championship’s Rally Croatia.
It’s a close fight out in front between the two championship rivals, Neuville and Evans, as the two ended the first day of the three-day rally weekend with the exact same time.
Eight stages lined up the action on the opening day and due to the championship standings, it meant that Neuville was forced to open the road for the following pack.
Securing four stage wins, compared to Evans’ two, it means that Neuville had the advantage over Evans at the end of day one despite the same time set on the board.
Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier kept the two crews honest by completing the day in third, 6.6 seconds off the pace of the top two drivers.
Hyundai’s Ott Tanak, and his co-driver Martin Järveoja, were the best of the rest in fourth but the Estonian crew were quite the distance off the top three, 41.1s away from Neuville and Evans.
M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux rounded out the top five, while he was nearly a minute away from the top two the French driver was only 11.6s off Tanak’s time at the end of the first day.
Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota), Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) and Gregoire Munster (M-Sport Ford) completed the WRC line-up in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
The WRC2 drivers of Nikolay Gryazin and Yohan Rossell completed the top 10, in ninth and 10th, with the latter leading the standings in the supporting category.
